Phormium tenax is perennial plant commonly known as New zealand flax. This plant is local to the New zealand. Mainly grown for its appealing foliage and for decorations. It looks a grass but it not grass. The plant develops as a cluster of long leaves, and foliage is medium erect in shape. They can not tender frost, they grow well in bright locations and inclines towards the full sun. The cutting edges of the plant contain cucurbitacins, which are noxious to some animals. Plants endure infrequent flooding with saline water. Commercially, this plant has the value for its fiber for the rope and sail making.
